Liam Delahunty is a Director in KPMG’s International Tax Group and has over 15 years’ experience advising on international tax issues. A Legal Practitioner and a Chartered Accountant, he has worked in Sydney, London, New York and Wellington.
Liam has advised a range of clients, from large multinationals to start-ups, on a variety of cross-border tax issues, including structuring/financing, intellectual property, supply chain, profit repatriation and permanent establishment issues.
Liam has also advised various inbound groups in relation to their Australian investments and operations, including branch/subsidiary comparators, financing/structuring, permanent establishment issues, withholding tax considerations and double tax treaty issues
His specific focus on permanent establishment issues has included assisting Australian clients in respect of ATO audit challenges regarding outbound PEs, and assisting multinationals in identifying and managing inbound PE risk
Liam has also assisted a variety of other groups in discussions with the ATO, in response to audits and risk reviews and in negotiations with respect to the multi-national anti-avoidance legislation
Liam has also been involved in consultations with Treasury and the ATO in respect of the introduction of the Diverted Profits Tax
Although focussing on Australian income tax matters, he also is familiar with a range of foreign tax jurisdictions, including the UK, USA, Singapore, Hong Kong and China. Liam also has a good understanding of a range of accounting and corporate law issues.
